In Rivne region, a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend were seriously injured in a grenade explosion

In the Rivne region, a grenade exploded in the hands of a 22-year-old man. He and his 23-year-old girlfriend sustained serious injuries. 

This was reported by Andriy Nebitov, Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine.

The victims are in hospital. The younger brother and other family members who were in the apartment were not injured.

"The young couple are medical students who came from Kyiv to visit their parents. But where one always expects safety, it turned out to be scarier than under shelling in the capital," Nebitov said.

According to him, the grenade was brought from the combat zone by the father of the injured man. 

Since the beginning of 2026, police have seized 19,666 grenades that were stored illegally. 

"I urge everyone who still keeps explosive collections at home to surrender them to the police. Weapons should hit the enemy – not you and your children," noted Andriy Nebitov.
