SSU officially confirmed the shootout with servicemen of the Defence Forces in Kyiv

The SSU has officially confirmed a shootout between its officers and representatives of Ukraine’s Defence Forces (DIU) in Kyiv.

According to the security service, its personnel were conducting a search as part of an investigation into a plot to assassinate one of the leaders of the Russian opposition.

During the search, unidentified individuals opened fire on SSU officers and blocked their vehicles. The Alpha special forces unit was deployed to neutralize the resistance, and its officers also used firearms.

As a result, several attackers were wounded and detained.

The SSU later established that the detainees were servicemen of one of the units of Ukraine’s Defence Forces. Weapons and documents were seized from them.

Earlier, social media accounts reported that the shootout occurred between SSU officers and DIU personnel after the SSU detained one of the commanders of the “Russian Volunteer Corps,” Kaplunov, who is affiliated with DIU structures.

The day before, the SSU had stated that it was conducting a joint operation with DIU. However, the new statement no longer refers to military intelligence as a “partner.”

DIU has not yet commented on the incident.
