The Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received modern mobile Rapid Ranger surface-to-air missile systems
The 1030th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Regiment “Aquila” within the Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has received British mobile surface-to-air missile systems Rapid Ranger.
This was reported by the Third Army Corps on Facebook.
Rapid Ranger was developed in the United Kingdom on the chassis of the URO VAMTAC armored off-road vehicle. The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 135 km/h and is equipped with an optoelectronic guidance system providing 360-degree coverage.
The system can also be fitted with a panoramic long-wave infrared search-and-track sensor and a radar. This allows Rapid Ranger to operate either autonomously or as part of an integrated command network.
To engage aerial targets, the system uses LMM Martlet missiles. Their maximum range is 7 km, while the radar can detect targets at distances up to 15 km.
The LMM Martlet missile is 1.3 meters long and weighs 13 kg. Its maximum flight speed reaches 1,800 km/h.
The exact number of Rapid Ranger systems delivered to the 1030th “Aquila” Regiment has not been disclosed.
Within Ukraine’s air-defense structure, Rapid Ranger fills the gap between mobile firing groups and less mobile surface-to-air missile systems. It is intended for use in areas where conventional radars cannot detect aerial targets and mobile firing groups lack the capability to engage them.
