Poland restricts flights along the border with Ukraine and Belarus due to the air threat
Poland is introducing temporary restrictions on the use of airspace along the eastern border with Ukraine and Belarus. The measures are linked to the constant aerial threat amid Russia’s actions, reports the official portal of the Polish Armed Forces.
The restrictions will be in effect from September 10 to December 9, 2026. During this period, a special zone will be established in the eastern part of the country, within which civil aviation flights at altitudes up to three kilometers will be significantly limited.
Warsaw emphasizes that the decision is aimed at strengthening national security and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the national air defence system.
The zone has been assigned the code EP R134 and will cover airspace from the ground surface up to approximately three thousand meters. Large passenger aircraft will be virtually unaffected by the restrictions, as most transit flights operate at significantly higher altitudes.
The special regime will be in effect around the clock for three months. At night – from sunset to sunrise – civil flights within the zone will be prohibited without prior authorization from military command.
During daytime hours, crossing the zone will remain possible, but only if the established conditions are met. The aircraft must follow a pre-submitted flight plan and have its transponder switched on.
