During the night attack on Kyiv, TEC-5 could have been damaged: the station was attacked with ballistic missiles
During the ballistic strike on Kyiv, the enemy likely damaged TEC-5 in the Holosiivskyi district. Footage of the burning station (or at least a fire near it) was taken by a correspondent from the Paton Bridge in the morning on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The extent of the damage to the TEC is still unknown, however, it is clear that the enemy has begun striking critical infrastructure facilities in the capital, on which the winter heating season depends.
This is reported by "Informator".
The strike on TEC-5 has not yet been officially confirmed — Vitaliy Klychko reported that in the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell "in warehouse premises" (all other strikes here were on school grounds and residential buildings). In the morning post, the president also noted vaguely — "damage to other civilian infrastructure." However, the footage taken by the Informator correspondent suggests that the fire in the Holosiivskyi district is ongoing near TEC-5, or even at the TEC itself.
In addition, reports from monitoring Telegram channels indicate that the enemy also "hunted" for TEC-6, located in the Desnianskyi district of the capital. Around 4 and 5 a.m., at least two jet-powered Shaheds circled between Brovary and the territory of the TEC, situated along Pukhivska Street on the very outskirts of the capital. This may indicate the start of an enemy operation to "knock out" Kyiv’s infrastructure related to heat generation.
TEC-5 was launched in 1971: it is one of the largest power-generating facilities in Kyiv
It should be noted that just the day before, on Friday, September 4, city authorities reported that major works at Kyiv’s TEC-5 and TEC-6 were being completed. According to Vitaliy Klychko, the capital’s readiness for the heating season was at 80% — therefore, the situation may now sharply worsen for a number of districts in the capital. TEC-5 provides heat and electricity to Darnytskyi, Solomianskyi, Pecherskyi, Holosiivskyi districts and part of Shevchenkivskyi district. In total, this covers 850,000 Kyiv residents (data as of 2012); it has four large power units and five powerful hot-water boilers.
TEC-5 was commissioned in 1971. It is located near the "Vydubychi" metro station and is clearly visible from the left bank of Kyiv. The electric capacity of this combined heat and power plant is 700 MW (however, after the strikes in the winter of 2025-2026, it is unlikely to be able to generate electricity), and the thermal capacity is 1,874 Gcal/h.
During combat operations, TEC-5 has already been repeatedly struck by missiles and Shaheds. It was first damaged by shelling on October 10, 2022. In March 2023, it was attacked by a "Kinzhal," and in October 2025 — by drones. Finally, on the night of January 9, 2026, the largest-scale strike occurred, as a result of which the combined heat and power plants TEC-5 and TEC-6 were shut down, leaving almost half of Kyiv without heat. A repeated strike occurred on the night of January 13, 2026 (after which heat supply was cut off for a prolonged period).
