A $5 million scheme: Large-scale production of counterfeit Biopatid weight loss product uncovered in Dnipro

In Dnipro, counterfeit weight loss drugs were manufactured and mass-distributed.

This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to its data, it concerns the popular worldwide drug «Biopatid». 27 people were involved in the scheme — all of them received suspicions under the article on the production and storage of falsified medicinal products.

The main active substance — tirzepatide — the manufacturer imported from China, registering it as a dietary supplement. Then, in a laboratory in Dnipro, a counterfeit drug was produced from it, which was advertised through public figures. In particular, it was promoted through colleagues and social networks by the owner of one of the Kyiv clinics.

The cost of production of the counterfeit was $17, and it was sold for $1200. In total, since the beginning of the year, counterfeit products worth $5 million have been manufactured.
