In Cherkasy, an enemy agent who was spying on air defence was detained

In Cherkasy, a local 45-year-old unemployed man was detained. He was scouting locations of permanent deployment and combat positions of the Ukrainian Air Defence Forces units on behalf of the Russian Federation. These units ensure the airspace protection of the region.

This was reported by the SSU and the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Potential enemy targets included anti-aircraft missile systems, radar stations, and mobile fire groups of Ukrainian troops. The occupiers were also interested in the base locations and security systems of National Guard units.

The FSB remotely recruited the man in August of this year when he was looking for "quick money" on "Telegram" channels.

On the orders of the occupiers, the traitor traveled around the region, covertly recording the locations of Ukrainian defenders, and also secretly extracting necessary information under the guise of casual conversations with his acquaintances.

The obtained data was marked on Google maps, which he later sent along with corresponding photographs to his Russian overseer. The Russians planned to use the agent’s report to prepare a new series of missile-and-drone strikes on the region, bypassing air defenses.

SSU counterintelligence operatives timely uncovered the agent and caught him "red-handed" while conducting reconnaissance near a military site. Comprehensive measures were also carried out to preserve the positions of Ukrainian troops.

At the time of the arrest, he was found with a mobile phone containing evidence of communication with the Russian special service.

SSU investigators notified the agent of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).

The criminal is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
