The notorious Kharkiv tax officer Makarenko, nicknamed "Converter", was detained for a huge bribe

Today in Kharkiv, capital city law enforcement officers arrested the head of the Eastern State Tax Inspectorate of the Main Department of the State Fiscal Service in the Kharkiv region, on bribery charges. According to the ’fiscal’ website, this leader is the notorious ’tax official’ Mykhaylo Makarenko.

According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the extortionist demanded 150 thousand hryvnias from a representative of a commercial enterprise for non-interference in its business activities.

Law enforcement officers arrested the fiscal officer while receiving part of the bribe in the amount of 124 thousand hryvnias. The tax official had already received 26 thousand hryvnias in advance.

After that, law enforcement officers began searches at the official’s residence.

According to the 2015 declaration, Makarenko owns four plots of land with a total area of 15,146 square meters, an apartment of 66.2 square meters, a garden house of 127.6 square meters, and two garages of 49 and 97 square meters.

According to the real estate rights register, Makarenko’s house with an area of 127.6 square meters is located in the village of Martove, where his neighbor is the former head of the regional tax department, Stanislav Denysyuk.

In a year, Makarenko’s income amounted to 494.9 thousand hryvnias, of which 400 thousand came from property alienation.

Makarenko’s wife, Olha Hapon, also holds a managerial position in the tax office. She is the acting head of the Zmiiv State Tax Inspectorate.

Hapon owns three plots of land totaling 1,258.8 square meters. She owns two apartments with areas of 15.28 square meters and 66.2 square meters.

In addition, Hapon has a garden house with an area of 40 square meters and a garage with an area of 48.8 square meters. She also owns a "Toyota Land Cruiser Prado" car.
