Russian occupiers executed a Ukrainian prisoner of war who surrendered near Bakhmut. This was reported in a report dated February 10 by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

It is noted that on February 9, footage taken from a Russian UAV appeared online, showing that the Russian military was executing Ukrainian prisoners of war near Kleshchievka in the Bakhmut direction.

“The footage shows a Russian soldier executing an unarmed Ukrainian prisoner who surrendered with his hands up and killed a second Ukrainian prisoner by throwing a grenade into a dugout. The General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine began a pre-trial investigation and criminal proceedings,” the Institute said in a statement.

ISW emphasized that an attack on soldiers who expressed their intention to surrender is a violation of Article 41 of the Geneva Convention for the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts.

Earlier there were already recorded cases when the Russian occupiers executed Ukrainian prisoners of war near Rabotino in the west of Zaporizhzhya region and near Stepnoye in the Avdiivka direction in December 2023..

It is also reported that the Russian Armed Forces advanced near Bakhmut amid positional battles in the area on February 10. According to Russian military bloggers, units of the 98th Airborne Division of the Russian Armed Forces advanced into the forest area south of Bogdanovka (northwest of Bakhmut).

According to the Ukrainian side, positional battles continued northeast of Bakhmut in the Razdolevka area, northwest of Bakhmut in the Bogdanovka area, west of Bakhmut in the Ivanovsky area, southwest of Bakhmut in the area of Kleshchiivka and Andriyivka, south of Bakhmut in the Pivdenyi and Shumiv areas.
