Polish activists intensify border blockade with Ukraine: thousands of trucks stuck in queues
Polish activists are blocking six checkpoints into Ukraine. In total, there are 2,200 trucks in line in six directions.
Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, said this on the We Are Ukraine TV show. "We have a significant decrease in the number of border crossings by trucks. This is especially noticeable at the Shehyni checkpoint, where about 35 trucks crossed the border over the past day (24 - towards Ukraine). Also, border crossing rates at Yagodyn are critically low, with 70 trucks entering Ukraine per day and none crossing to Poland," he added.
Meanwhile, Polish hauliers have announced that they will resume their strike at the Ukrainian border on 1 March. Drivers and representatives of logistics companies will join the blockade already being organised by Polish farmers.
The carriers’ protest action was suspended on 17 January. At that time, they said they would wait for the Polish government and the European Commission to fulfil their demands by 1 March.
However, according to Maciej Wronski, president of the Polish Transport and Logistics Association, the negotiations between the carriers and the authorities have not progressed. "There was an announcement from the Ministry of Infrastructure that a draft law would be submitted to strengthen control over Ukrainian carriers. Several weeks have passed and we have no draft," Wronski said.
The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine has fulfilled all the agreements to prevent the blockade by Polish carriers. However, a number of issues still remain unresolved. However, the Polish side is assured that they are responsible for them.
