Kuleba - on the supply of ammunition to Ukraine: Decisive and systemic solutions are needed
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba believes that if Europe seeks to restore peace, it must rapidly increase arms production and ban the export of artillery ammunition to other continents.
He wrote about this in an author’s column for Le Monde .
“Our friends need to speed up if they are serious about achieving our common goal of restoring peace to Europe. They should invest more in defense production and ban the export of artillery ammunition to regions outside Europe. Today, every ammunition produced in Europe must be used to defend Europe,” Kuleba wrote.
He added that he was “cautiously optimistic” about the decision to increase the purchase of ammunition from third countries, taken by the allies at the Paris conference on February 26.
“We are deeply grateful for this decision. But this is not enough. There is an urgent need for decisive and systemic solutions, and not for hectic discussions,” Kuleba emphasized.
In his opinion, Europe’s victorious strategy must be based on unity, and without bold and honest answers to the questions raised in Paris, "there will be neither unity nor strategy."
“Ukraine needs more artillery ammunition and long-range missiles to repel Russian attacks and liberate its territory. It needs Patriots and other air defense systems to protect its cities. Capacity for faster repair of military equipment at bases in Ukraine, rather than abroad. Train your soldiers at bases in Ukraine, not abroad. It all makes sense. Provided that we do not allow ourselves to be guided by fear,” notes the head of the Foreign Ministry.
He agrees with the French President that Europe should not wait for the results of the US presidential elections, but must act immediately.
In major wars, the minister notes, the situation may change in favor of those who have endurance and allies. There are a number of simple and obvious decisions that need to be made in order for the situation to change.
“In Paris they have already realized the truth: either our allies reject fear, indecision and so-called obstacles and provide full support to Ukrainian soldiers in their battles for the cities and villages of Ukraine, or one day it will be the turn of your soldiers to give their lives in battles for the cities and villages of the first countries Central Europe, and then the rest of Europe,” Kuleba said.
