Ministry of Defence showed how evacuation medical wagons for the AFU looks like
The department clarified that the equipment of these cars is the same as in a real hospital, and this makes even surgical intervention possible while the train is moving in the most critical cases.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine demonstrated railway evacuation medical cars, which “have become an extremely important element” for providing assistance to wounded military personnel. This was reported in the press service of the department.
According to Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Natalya Kalmykova, the main role in military medicine during war is played by coordination and logistics. Therefore, this is why evacuation medical and resuscitation cars have become key in providing timely assistance to wounded or injured soldiers.
In addition, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC Yevhen Lyashchenko noted that the first medical car, which “has no analogues in the world,” was created in early March 2022. He added that at that time there were no drawings or technical documentation, but there was a great need for such cars.
According to him, railway workers and doctors managed to convert the first such carriage in just four days. Today, the total number of cars involved in medical evacuation in Ukraine is 62 units.
What’s inside medical carriages?
The Ministry of Defence clarified that the equipment of medical carriages is identical to the equipment of a real hospital, and this makes it possible to provide emergency medical care while moving.
“Therefore, these cars can transport seriously wounded military personnel who cannot be transported by other modes of transport,” the press service assures.
In addition, anesthesiologists, nurses, paramedics, orderlies and evacuation teams of railway workers work in the cars.
“The medical equipment on board the train makes even surgical intervention possible while the train is moving in the most critical cases,” the statement said.

Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov noted that there are prospects for running medical carriages not only from the front to rear hospitals.
“We are technically ready to launch carriages to and across the border for the treatment and rehabilitation of our soldiers. We are working with partners on implementation,” he commented.
