NATO will transfer five ships to Ukraine - Pletenchuk

Speaker of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmytro Pletenchuk said that Ukraine is preparing to receive five ships from NATO. However, now one of the main threats to the Black Sea remains the mine danger.

He spoke about this during the telethon.

He noted that mines are a common problem for Ukraine and its neighbors in the Black Sea. Among them are three NATO members - Romania, Bulgaria and Türkiye.

"The Black Sea needs a full-fledged mine clearance operation. It has already been planned, a headquarters has been created, the crews of the ships are preparing. However, now, due to the Montreux Convention, these ships (from NATO - Ed.) cannot enter the Black Sea," he said Navy speaker.

According to Pletenchuk, the Ukrainian crews who were preparing to work on the ships Cherkasy and Chernigov, transferred by Great Britain to the Ukrainian Navy, have already undergone training.

“They are already in service. Last year they received a first-level compatibility assessment with NATO countries. This year we hope to receive the highest assessment - the second level of compatibility. In addition, three more ships are being prepared for transfer - from the Netherlands and Belgium. And these The crews are already continuing their training. In total, we plan to receive five ships that are mine-resistant,” Pletenchuk said.
