Power will be cut off without warning in Ukraine: schedules cancelled, but may be returned
Temporary emergency power outages have been introduced in Ukraine. Restrictions were introduced in four regions - Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and the city of Kyiv. The lights will be turned off without a prior schedule, in emergency mode.
This is stated in the DTEK message. “Unfortunately, the difficult situation in the energy system after the shelling of Russia continues. Therefore, at the direction of Ukrenergo, emergency shutdowns are being applied,” the company notes.
Ukrainians should differentiate between the types of power outages, because if you lose power, this does not necessarily mean the use of hourly outages. There are two main modes of energy supply restrictions in Ukraine:
- emergency shutdown schedules (ESS); they are also emergency blackouts: they are introduced without warning in the event of an emergency power shortage in the energy system;
- Hourly outage schedules (HOS), also known as stabilization outages or planned outages: they have a clearly defined period of action and are introduced when there is a predicted power shortage in the power system.
Power outage according to schedule: how to find out the time in Kyiv
In Kyiv, for each household consumer, the hours per day are divided into three categories depending on the mode of electricity supply. In the graphs, these categories are color coded:
- white color: there is light (in the absence of shelling and accidents);
- dark gray color: guaranteed shutdown (applies to hourly schedules);
- light gray color: possible outages (applied for hourly charts).
Guaranteed shutdown lasts up to 4 hours, and guaranteed availability of electricity lasts for 2 hours. The maximum time without electricity for each group can reach 18 hours a day with guaranteed blackouts for a total of 9 to 12 hours a day, depending on the day of the week.
Residents of Kyiv can use several resources to obtain information about outage schedules. Namely:
- DTEK website: "DTEK Kyiv Electric Grids";
- DTEK KEM chatbot;
- telephones: 1588, (044) 202 1588 (same number with codes 067, 050 and 073), 0800501588.
