Migration Service published statistics on how many people received or lost Ukrainian citizenship
Even during the war, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees on the withdrawal of Ukrainian citizenship.
The Migration Service reported how many people received Ukrainian citizenship during the war, and how many were deprived of it.
2022 – 219 people received citizenship, 26 lost it.
2023 – only one person received citizenship, 16 were deprived of it.
The first six months of 2024 (until June 30) - 50 people received citizenship, 10 lost it.
The State Migration Service reported these data in response to a request from a public organization.
Let us note that after the start of mobilization, the issue of the possibility of renouncing Ukrainian citizenship began to be actively discussed among Ukrainians abroad. However, lawyers say that this is an almost unrealistic procedure. Since to renounce citizenship, a simple application from a citizen is not enough. The President must sign the corresponding decree. And he most likely won’t do this.
But, as we see, although in small quantities, the president still signs decrees on deprivation of citizenship even during a war.
