Ukrainian troops take over Sudzha gas metering station in Kursk region - Russian media

Russian military Telegram channels write that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have taken the Sudzha gas measuring station in the Kursk region, which is located near the border.

Neither Ukraine nor Russia officially confirms the information.

Now it is the only place through which gas transits from Russia to the European Union through Ukraine.

Sudzha accounts for half of Russian gas exports to the EU. The main recipients are Slovakia and Austria, from where gas goes to the Czech Republic, Italy and other countries.

It is not yet clear how the transfer of control over the station to the APU will affect gas supplies to the EU. On the one hand, Ukraine, if it wanted, could have blocked Russian gas transit to Europe earlier, which already passes through Ukrainian territory. On the other hand, if fighting begins for the station, its operation will be in question. In addition, Russia itself could stop the transit, using this as a lever of pressure on the EU in order to force the West to encourage Kyiv to stop the offensive.
