Saboteurs who destroyed Ukrzaliznytsia facilities detained in Ukraine
Russian intelligence hoped to use saboteurs to disrupt the delivery of weapons and ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the front lines.
Law enforcement officers detained two groups of arsonists who were operating in the Kharkiv and Cherkasy regions on orders from Russian intelligence. They were trying to damage Ukrzaliznytsia facilities, the SSU reported on Monday, August 19.
It was indicated that the priority targets of the four saboteurs were relay cabinets on railway lines.
Thus, in the Kharkiv region, two men were detained "red-handed" when they tried to burn down a battery cabinet of a railway traffic light at night. They had tracked the train schedule along the route in advance in order to block their movement as much as possible.
"Law enforcement officers gradually documented the criminal actions of the saboteurs and detained them while attempting to set fire to railway equipment," the report says.
And in Cherkasy region, a deserter-contractor from one of the military units was detained, who was hiding in the region and committing arson "on orders" from Russia. He involved his acquaintance, a local unemployed man, in this.
The men attempted to destroy eight relay cabinets of signal installations on strategically important railway lines.
All detainees were informed of suspicion under the article on sabotage committed under martial law by prior agreement by a group of persons (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The perpetrators are in custody. They face life imprisonment.
