In the center of Kyiv on Saturday, September 28, a solemn march dedicated to the Day of Defenders of Ukraine took place. The event started from Taras Shevchenko Park.

On Saturday, September 28, at 12:00 in the center of Kyiv, a solemn march dedicated to the Day of Defenders of Ukraine began. Participants gathered at Taras Shevchenko Park, from where they proceeded along Pavlo Skoropadskyy Street towards the Ukrainian Heroes Square.

After that, the column passed along Khreshchatyk Street, and then to European Square, after which it ascended to the Memory Wall on Mykhaylivska Square.

Relatives of the deceased and everyone willing to join the event – Ukrainians carried placards with photos of Ukrainian soldiers and with inscriptions "Honor the living. Remember the fallen. Fight for the prisoners." About 1,000 citizens participated in the solemn march.

The Day of Defenders of Ukraine is a state holiday in Ukraine, which is celebrated annually on October 1, on the day of the Protection of the Holy Virgin. It was established on October 14, 2014, by presidential decree under the name "Day of the Defender of Ukraine." Due to the reform of the church calendar in Ukraine, since 2023, the celebration has been moved from October 14 to October 1. Since 2015, it has been a state holiday and a day off.
