The Azov prisoner of war Serhiy Tarasyuk contracted tuberculosis in Russian captivity
Ukrainian soldier Serhiy Tarasyuk, who is in Russian captivity, has contracted tuberculosis and feels very exhausted due to poor detention conditions.
This was reported by his wife Lyudmyla.
According to the latest information, Tarasyuk is held in pre-trial detention center No. 2 in the city of Kamyshin, Volgograd region. He was transferred to a cell for prisoners with tuberculosis.
“Serhiy is very exhausted. They are giving him some drips, but this is not proper medical treatment. And he is already 58 years old. He had many illnesses before captivity, and new ones have appeared in captivity,” noted the wife of the prisoner of war.
Lyudmyla learned about her husband’s health and condition from another soldier who was with Serhiy in the same cell for some time and was released from captivity on September 13-14, 2024. He told her that they were together in the Olenivka colony in a barrack that the occupiers blew up on the night of July 29, 2022.
Another released person who was with Serhiy in the Russian colony informed his wife that besides tuberculosis, he has rapidly progressing psoriasis and dental problems, which make it difficult for him to eat. Tarasyuk has lost a lot of weight.
“There are also issues with his back. This fellow told me that when they are taken somewhere, they are forced to bend very low. And Serhiy is tall, 1.86 m, it’s hard for him. If someone doesn’t comply, they are beaten… I am very frightened by the state of his health,” added Lyudmyla.
Together with other servicemen, Serhiy left "Azovstal" on May 17, 2022. His family recognized him in a propaganda video. In the video, he was walking with the support of a stick, and a fellow soldier was helping carry his belongings. Tarasyuk was thrown into Olenivka, from where he sometimes called his wife. After the explosion, Lyudmyla received information from the Coordination Headquarters that many prisoners from Olenivka were transferred to pre-trial detention center No. 2 in Taganrog, Rostov region.
Since then, there has been little information about him.
