Ukraine and the EU agreed to increase electricity imports during the winter period

Ukraine and the European Union have agreed to increase electricity import capacity from December 1. This will strengthen the resilience of the Ukrainian energy system against possible attacks on energy infrastructure by Russia.

This was reported by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko, according to the data from the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

"The maximum capacity for importing electricity from EU countries will be increased from 1.7 to 2.1 GW from December 1. This will enhance the resilience of the Ukrainian energy system during criminal Russian shelling and infrastructure destruction," he noted.

The minister thanked the European partners and European Commissioner Kadri Simson for supporting Ukraine ahead of the winter season.

The issue of increasing import capacity was discussed in September at a meeting between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv.

In addition, Ukraine will have the opportunity to receive an additional 250 MW of capacity from the EU in emergency assistance mode.
