Constant Russian shelling of the Sumy region has damaged a national monument, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built over 200 years ago.

This was reported on the website of Orthodox Sumy, citing photos published by the chief architect of the Sumy region, Volodymyr Bykov.

The church is located in the village of Yunakivka. The temple is considered one of the most famous buildings in the region.

"Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, built in 1806, is an example of early classicism and a true adornment of the Sumy region. This very temple is depicted on the coat of arms of the Sumy district as a symbol of the historical heritage and spiritual depth of the region," representatives of Orthodox Sumy said.

The temple belonged to the Sumy Eparchy of the UOC MP. As a result of the attacks, part of the temple burned down, one of the domes was almost half destroyed, and the bell tower shifted, which also led to its destruction.
