Cabinet of Ministers: Families of deceased civilians in Ukraine will be paid 15 million hryvnias
In Ukraine, there are plans to adopt a bill on the compensation to families of civilians who died while participating in Ukraine’s defense activities alongside military formations. It is proposed that the one-time assistance will amount to 15 million UAH.
The corresponding bill was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers at a meeting on November 22. This was reported by the government’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.
Currently, such compensation amounts to 1.9 million UAH, noted Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. Thus, the payment will be increased by 13.1 million UAH.
"The draft Law ’On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine ’On the Status of War Veterans, Guarantees of Their Social Protection’ regarding the appointment of one-time monetary assistance’ has been approved," Melnychuk’s message states. In particular, it is envisaged:
- allocation of a 15 million UAH payment to families of civilians who died while participating in Ukraine’s defense activities alongside military formations from February 24 to March 25, 2022;
- surcharge for those who received partial compensation — up to 15 million UAH;
- clarification of the grounds for granting the status of a family member of a deceased (deceased) defender of Ukraine.
"At the beginning of the full-scale war, many Ukrainians took up arms and defended the country as civilians. For the families of such deceased civilians, a payment of 1.9 million UAH is provided. We propose increasing it to 15 million UAH, and we consider it to be right and fair. This will help support the families of those who died defending our state and future," explained Denys Shmyhal. It is noted that families of military personnel who died while defending Ukraine currently receive a payment of 15 million UAH.
The document will now be submitted for consideration by the parliament. It is the members of parliament who will make the final decision.
Previously in Ukraine, the procedure for obtaining monetary compensation for military personnel who were disabled due to combat actions or for relatives of deceased military personnel was simplified. Applications can be submitted via Diya and the Centers for Administrative Services (CNAP).
The decision on the appointment and payment of one-time assistance is made by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.
The right to receive monetary assistance of a deceased military service member belongs to their relatives, except those who do not reside in Ukraine or were convicted of treason, collaboration, or aiding an aggressor.
- the parents of the deceased;
- spouse;
- children under 18 years old (including adopted or conceived before the death of the service member);
- dependents of the deceased (family members who were fully supported by the deceased or received their main financial support from them).
