Shooting of police with a machine gun in Khmelnytskyi region: border guard sentenced to 12 years imprisonment

A border guard who shot an officer with an automatic rifle in February was sentenced to 12 years in prison by a court in Khmelnytskyi region.

The 36-year-old junior sergeant of the border detachment went on a daily duty and received an AK-74. With it, he shot his commander in front of the entrance to the officer’s canteen, with whom he had "hostile relations."

In court, he stated that the day before, the commander had beaten him and another serviceman. The command promised to investigate, but the man began to have "obsessive thoughts that he should shoot his commander." At the same time, he claims he did not intend to kill.

A forensic psychiatric examination concluded that the man has no mental disorders and claims he is stating this for his defense.
