Former Party of Regions MP Kolesnichenko is served a notice of suspicion of high treason

A former member of parliament from the Party of Regions has been charged with treason and justifying the armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General on December 11.

The agency does not name the deputy, but judging by the photo, it is about Vadym Kolesnichenko.

«A member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the IV-VII convocations from the Party of Regions was charged with treason, inciting national hatred, and justifying the armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine (part 2 of article 111, part 2 of article 161, part 3 of article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)», – the statement says.

According to the investigation, the suspect prematurely resigned from his position as a deputy in 2014 and left for Sevastopol. There, he actively facilitated the annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol and later became an advisor in the occupation administration. Afterward, the former high-ranking official ran for the position of the so-called governor of Sevastopol.

It is also reported that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the suspect has continued to assist Russian representatives in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine.

He publicly appeared in the media, spreading the narratives of the aggressor state, in particular denying Ukrainian statehood, justifying, and supporting Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, while demeaning the Ukrainian people.
