In Ukraine, the number of first-year students has decreased by 80,000
In 2024, higher education institutions admitted over 187,000 applicants to both budget-funded and contract-based forms of study. This is 80,000 fewer than the previous year, when the number of first-year students was 267,000.
These figures were published in the report of the State Enterprise "Inforesurs". More than 217,000 applicants submitted applications for admission to universities in 2024.
Let us remind you that in 2025, the admission campaign will start in May. The National Multisubject Test in 2025 will take place from May 14 to July 25. Participants will need to take four subjects in one day, with mandatory subjects being Ukrainian language, mathematics, and Ukrainian history. Applicants will also be able to choose among Ukrainian literature, geography, biology, chemistry, physics, and a foreign language.

The NMT-2025 tasks in mathematics, Ukrainian history, biology, geography, physics, and chemistry will be translated into four languages: Crimean Tatar, Polish, Romanian, and Hungarian. Applicants will be able to choose the language of the exam during registration.
At the same time, applicants with the highest NMT scores may be exempted from mandatory work at their first job placement. This proposal was put forward by the Ministry of Education and Science. The number of such applicants could be 10-15%. According to the financing model, the state order should cover 25-30% of applicants who will have their first job in the public sector.
