Russian Federation launched 111 drones at Ukraine from four directions: how the air defence performed

On New Year’s Eve, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using 111 drones from four directions. Air defence systems managed to shoot down most of them.

This information was reported in the Telegram channel of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"On the night of January 1, 2025, the enemy launched an attack with 111 Shahed-type strike UAVs and other types of drones from the directions of Bryansk, Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Crimea," the report informs.

How the Air Defence responded

To repel the air attack, aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, mobile fire teams of the Air Force and Defence Forces of Ukraine were deployed.

"As of 09:30, the downing of 63 Shahed-type strike UAVs and other types of drones has been confirmed," the military reported.

The air defence operated in the Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zaporizhzhya, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, and Mykolaiv regions.

In addition, thanks to the active countermeasures of the Defence Forces, 46 enemy imitator drones lost their location, and two more flew back to Russia and Belarus.
