In the Rada, a resolution was registered regarding the resignation of Minister of Energy Halushchenko
Ukrainian Member of Parliament Inna Sovsun has officially registered a resolution in the Verkhovna Rada to dismiss Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko. Today, January 10, a conflict arose between them after Sovsun stated that the EU and the US Embassy do not support the completion of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.
Sovsun announced this on Facebook.
The parliamentarian urged her colleagues to support the resolution to dismiss Halushchenko. The document is registered under number 8109 in the Document Management System (document card — 1779275).
The reason for initiating the procedure was a conflict in the Verkhovna Rada today, January 10. Sovsun informed the government that Ukraine’s partners from the EU and the US do not support the completion of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant. She received relevant statements from the EU Commission’s delegation and the US Embassy in Ukraine. The organizations are concerned about false information spreading in the media space.
Halushchenko called the EU Commission representatives "mid-level clerks" and added: "I am very sorry that you are running around embassies and badmouthing our energy sector and our state."
"When a weak person has no arguments, they resort to personal attacks. But problems arise when this weak person is the Minister of Energy. (...) Today’s situation is evidence that Halushchenko can no longer even pretend to be adequate and professionally competent. Now he just lashes out at people, is rude, and burns bridges with international partners," argues the people’s deputy.
The "Holos" faction, to which Inna Sovsun belongs, also demands that the next session of the Verkhovna Rada begin with Halushchenko’s report on corruption in the Ministry of Energy, in accordance with the parliamentary decision that the minister has been ignoring for several months, according to the MP. Otherwise, "Holos" will block the work of the Rada.
Sovsun’s party colleague, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, listed the reasons on Telegram for which, in his opinion, Halushchenko should be dismissed: he specifically cited systemic corruption in the energy sector, the minister’s neglect of summonses to parliamentary sessions and committees/temporary investigative commissions; failed efforts to protect part of the energy facilities, and loss of reputation among partners.
