OPG: Prosecutors are checking the legality of construction in the Hryshko National Botanical Garden
Prosecutors from the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office of the Prosecutor General’s Office have begun examining the legality of the investment agreement and construction plans on the protected territories of the M. M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden in Kyiv. It is one of the leading and largest botanical gardens in Europe.
This is reported by the press center of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Based on the results of this review, a legal assessment will be provided in accordance with the requirements of current legislation.
"The situation with possible construction on the territory of the Botanical Garden has gained widespread attention and public resonance in the country. Therefore, environmental prosecutors have promptly taken measures to prevent the loss of especially valuable lands and to preserve unique plant species," the statement reads.
The Prosecutor General’s Office reminds that the Hryshko National Botanical Garden of national importance was established in 1935 for the purpose of conducting scientific research aimed at the conservation, study, acclimatization, and reproduction of rare and typical species of local and global flora.
The area of the botanical garden extends over 129 hectares. It houses an arboretum, a collection of diverse flowering plants, and more.
Engaging in activities not related to scientific research endangers the preservation of various flora collections, which does not align with the purpose of establishing a nature reserve fund object.
Efforts to protect the unique territory of the botanical garden continue.
