The Polish government has included border infrastructure in the list of critical objects to limit possible attempts to block the Polish-Ukrainian border in the future.

This was announced during a meeting with journalists by the Polish government’s commissioner for cooperation with Ukraine, the chairman of the Polish Sejm’s Foreign Affairs Commission, Paweł Kowal.

“The government has implemented rules related to critical infrastructure, which has slightly reduced the inconveniences caused by protests (at the border – ed.),” Kowal noted.

He emphasized that “the list of what is considered critical infrastructure has been expanded.”

Kowal called it obvious that in Poland and throughout the EU, farmers will always look for ways to organize protests that will be most painful for the authorities. On the other hand, any government will try to limit these protests within the law.

At the same time, he noted that the protests at the Polish-Ukrainian border concern the situation that arose last year; this year, there are no problems at the border between Poland and Ukraine.

The Polish government commissioner also expressed the opinion that the scale of last year’s protests is “disproportionate to such significant tension (in the public space – ed.) on this matter, especially from the Ukrainian side.” He noted that this is well tracked when comparing export data with the level of protests, which was not significantly affected by it.
