Ukraine would have lost if the Russian Federation had occupied Kyiv, - Zelenskyy

If the aggressor country had captured Kyiv at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine would have been defeated in the war, said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He stated this in an interview with Italian journalist Cecilia Sala for the newspaper Il Foglio, published on YouTube.

"With the occupation of Kyiv, if it had happened, a full occupation of our capital, we would undoubtedly have lost Ukraine," emphasized the head of state.

He noted that all people united to defend Kyiv, and thanks to this unity, the nation managed to defend the capital.

"At the beginning of the war, there was a challenge: a significant part of the country was occupied, and Russia was one step away from capturing the capital (of Ukraine. - ed.)," added Zelenskyy.
