The number of attempted illegal border crossings has significantly decreased, - SBGS

Since last summer, there has been a trend towards a decrease in attempts to illegally cross the border in Ukraine.

This was stated by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko, during a telethon broadcast.

«If we compare January to July of last year, there is a decrease of as much as 45%. However, overall attempts to illegally cross the border, unfortunately, continue daily, although the number of those willing has decreased…» – he said.

The spokesperson noted that, as before, most cases occur outside the checkpoints on the border with Romania and Moldova. Fewer – at the border with Slovakia and Hungary. The least number of attempts to illegally cross the border – in the section with Poland.

However, there are still attempts to illegally cross directly at the checkpoints. Here, the most cases are at the border with Poland. Demchenko emphasized that this is where the largest passenger flow is.

The border guard stressed that often evaders turn to criminal organized groups for «help» for considerable sums of money. Criminals put people at risk by directing them on routes through rivers or mountainous areas.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, with the participation of border guards, more than 760 such criminal groups have been uncovered, including about 40 groups in January 2025.
