Ukrainian animation about the war won an award at a prestigious festival
Ukrainian director Anastasiya Falileyeva, known for her works "Dog Patron," "Papier-Mâché," "Tiger Wandering Nearby," and "Until It Turns Black," has won a prestigious award in France for her new film "I Died in Irpin."
The director received the award in the category "Best Animated Film" at the world’s largest short film festival, the Festival du court métrage de Clermont-Ferrand, which takes place in the French city of Clermont-Ferrand.
"This exquisite film deeply moves and challenges traditional perceptions. It immerses us in a journey that explores the emotional, physical, and spiritual experiences of living through war, from both a personal focus and a broader societal perspective," noted the festival jury.
The director herself has already responded to her victory.
She said: "This award is important for the entire Ukrainian film industry, not just for the animation sector."
Interestingly, this animated film by Anastasia has already been presented at the French Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and last year "I Died in Irpin" won an award at the Korean Bucheon International Animation Festival.
The film "I Died in Irpin" is a documentary animation. According to the plot, a girl and her boyfriend went to Irpin at the beginning of the full-scale invasion to be with his parents. However, with each passing day, it became increasingly difficult and challenging for the protagonists to survive there.
