In the Kursk region, the configuration of our bridgehead is difficult to maintain, - expert
Serhiy Zhurets, head of the information and consulting company Defence Express, emphasized that the enemy is actively employing its drone units, directing them to cut off logistical routes that support our grouping in the Kursk direction.
He reported this on the air of "Espreso".
"There are active operations on both sides in the Kursk region right now. Ukrainian forces have been holding certain territory inside Russia for over half a year, the area of which has decreased today. The enemy has increased its forces, aiming to push out our Armed Forces. A few days ago, Russian troops expelled our units from the settlement of Sverdlovka, which is located near the road that supplies from Sumy to Sudzha. The occupiers also advanced to the village of Novenke in the Sumy region but were pushed back from there," noted Serhiy Zhurets.
In his opinion, the problem is that along the section from Sverdlovka to Novenke, the enemy is actively using its drone units to cut off logistical routes that support our grouping in the Kursk direction. There are regular attacks on the road from Sumy to Sudzha by Russian drones with fiber optic guidance. This is a serious challenge that requires a response from the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"It is known that our aviation, which destroys detected positions from where the enemy launches drones, is actively involved in countermeasures, and electronic warfare systems are also in operation. However, the configuration of our foothold, which extends 45 km in length and about 20 km in width, is quite complex to maintain. The western flank, with a length of 20 km, creates conditions for the use of means of influence on our units, and holding this section is a very difficult task. It is known that the political component of maintaining this foothold is significant, but it is necessary to balance military and military-political risks: if the logistics situation worsens, decisions need to be made regarding the advisability of the presence of Ukrainian units in the Kursk region. I emphasize that the political weight of this situation sometimes exceeds military rationality," noted the military expert.
Zhurets concluded that, on one hand, the enemy has concentrated 60 thousand troops in the Kursk region, which are restrained by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, meaning the enemy cannot use these forces in other directions. However, it is necessary to understand at what cost this foothold is maintained so that the situation does not turn into a second Krynky, where our military shows courage and resilience in difficult areas. If there is an opportunity to ensure a more favorable configuration for our defense and maintain troops, sometimes the military component takes precedence over political expectations regarding the retention of certain sections of the front.
