"Ukrzaliznytsia" has to negotiate with businesses regarding freight transportation tariffs – Shmyhal

On Monday, March 17, the head of the Ukrainian government – Denys Shmyhal announced that "Ukrzaliznytsia" must negotiate with businesses about the freight tariff.  

The Prime Minister of Ukraine noted that the government expects the leadership of Ukrzaliznytsia with a financial plan for 2025 in a week or two. During this period, the company should hold consultations with businesses regarding the freight railway tariff.

Previously, the head of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, stated that it is necessary to "push through" a 37% increase in freight tariffs.

On their part, businesses noted that the company generally does not engage with its clients and refuses to explain such an increase, essentially manipulating its monopoly position.

According to market participants’ estimates, if Ukrzaliznytsia’s freight tariffs are increased, Ukrainians will face another rise in food prices, increased real estate costs, and a new wave of inflation.
