Zelenskyy: The United States does not currently support Ukraine’s accession to NATO
Excluding the question of Ukraine’s membership in NATO from discussions is a significant support for Russia. Currently, the United States does not support our accession to the Alliance.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a joint press conference in Oslo with Jonas Gahr Støre. reported during a joint press conference in Oslo with Jonas Gahr Støre.
"The United States, despite being a major ally in NATO, does not approve of Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance. As of today, this is the case. I believe that it should not be simply handed over to the Russians. In my opinion, it is a significant gift to remove this topic from discussions. I consider this an incorrect approach," he emphasized.
In addition, the president commented on Putin’s demands regarding Ukraine, particularly the refusal of NATO membership.
"We have always said that we do not understand what the discussion is about, it is an ultimatum, not a proposal for ending the war. If it is about NATO and implies neutrality outside the NATO bloc, then unfortunately, we are not being accepted into NATO, even though we want it, and it would solve many issues. Instead of all the discussions about Ukraine’s defence, joining NATO would simplify many things," Zelenskyy added.
