Four officials of the Lviv unit of the NGU allowed subordinates to work at a car service station instead of serving

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, together with the Strategic Investigations Department and the SSU, have uncovered a corruption scheme in a National Guard military unit located in Lviv. Two deputy commanders and two company commanders allowed soldiers to work at private service stations instead of serving, in exchange for a fee.

As reported on Friday, March 28, by the State Bureau of Investigation, the scheme organized by two deputy commanders of the unit and two company commanders operated for about eight months – from July 2024 to March 2025. The servicemen were officially recorded as being on duty, while they were actually working at private service stations. During this time, the commanders appropriated their financial allowances. According to media reports, the corruption scheme operated in one of the Lviv National Guard units.

"The officials allowed seven contract soldiers not to appear for duty and work at private service stations in Lviv and the region. At the same time, they obliged the military personnel to hand over their financial allowances, which they officially received at the military unit," the State Bureau of Investigation’s statement reads.

All four officials have been notified of suspicion for abuse of power as part of a group conspiracy (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They face a penalty of up to 12 years of imprisonment. The court will consider the motions to apply preventive measures and suspend them from their positions.

The investigation is still determining the extent of damages incurred to the state.
