Zelenskyy congratulated Nicusor Dan on his election victory in Romania

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Nicusor Dan — a pro-Western independent candidate — on winning the second round of elections in Romania, where he managed to surpass the far-right George Simion. The head of the Ukrainian state noted that he "looks forward to the further development of strategic partnership between our friendly countries for their stability, security, and prosperity".

Zelenskyy posted the corresponding message on X (Twitter) on the night of May 19. He called Dan’s victory historic.

"For Ukraine — as a neighbor and friend — it is important to have a reliable partner in Romania. And we are confident that this will be the case. By working together, we can strengthen both our countries and our Europe," the Ukrainian president pointed out.

He mentioned the support Kyiv received from Bucharest after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.

"We will always hold a great deal of respect for Romania and its people, especially considering the support we received during the most challenging period of our history," wrote Zelenskyy.

He also addressed the residents of the neighboring country. "Dear Romanians, you can always count on Ukraine as a good neighbor and partner. We are capable of overcoming any challenges if we remain united and strong," Zelenskyy assured.
