Paris prepares a multinational force headquarters for Ukraine: the mission will start after the ceasefire
A headquarters for multinational forces, ready to be deployed in Ukraine after the end of hostilities, will be established in Paris.
This was agreed upon by representatives of the "coalition of the willing" at a meeting in Rome, reports the Washington Post.
The "coalition" meeting was attended for the first time by an American delegation led by Trump representative Kellogg, as well as Senators Graham and Blumenthal, co-authors of the bill on secondary sanctions against Russia.
The contingent will be called Multinational Force Ukraine. In its first year, its headquarters will be located in Paris and then move to London. A coordination center is planned to be established in Kyiv. The countries that will be part of these forces are not specified, but it is stated that there will be about 30 of them (excluding the USA).
It is anticipated that Ukraine will be provided with logistics and training experts to assist in the rebuilding of its armed forces, and "ensure security" in Ukrainian airspace and the Black Sea. Whether fully operational combat forces will be deployed in Ukraine is not specified.
The article also notes that no specific commitments were announced, and U.S. Senators Blumenthal and Graham ruled out the deployment of American troops in Ukraine.
Neither Macron nor Starmer — the main initiators of this idea — attended the meeting, but they addressed it via video link from London.
The "coalition of the willing" guarantees that we have future forces that can be deployed after the ceasefire to deter Russian aggression for many years," said Starmer.
Macron noted that the "coalition of the willing" will be ready to start its mission immediately after the ceasefire in Ukraine. "A plan has been developed, which we are ready to implement on the day a ceasefire is established," said the French president.
It should be reminded that Russia opposes any military presence of Western countries in Ukraine as part of the war settlement. Moscow also demands the cessation of Western aid to Kyiv for the ceasefire.
