«We need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict»: Putin on ending the war in Ukraine"
After three-hour negotiations in a narrow format, U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin made brief statements. During his address, the Kremlin leader traditionally started talking about the "underlying causes of the Ukrainian conflict."
Putin also cynically called Ukraine a "brotherly nation." The Russian dictator stated this during a press conference in Alaska.
Putin claimed that the situation in Ukraine is linked to threats to Russia’s security. At the same time, he added that he is "hurt" by the terrible tragedy taking place in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin chief said that for a long-term resolution of the war, it’s necessary to remove the "underlying causes of the conflict."
"To remove this conflict for many years, we must eliminate all sources of this conflict. This is the imbalance in Europe and globally. Naturally, Ukraine’s security needs enhancement. We want to work on this. I hope that the agreement we reached will help pave the way to peace in Ukraine," Putin said.
The Russian dictator also complained that Kyiv and European capitals might allegedly attempt to disrupt the peace process through "provocations."
