Zelenskyy compared the attack by Russian drones on Poland to the annexation of Crimea
The intrusion of Russian drones into Polish territory resembles the situation with the Kremlin’s annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. The aggressor was testing the West’s reaction, but that is not the only goal.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on September 11 during a joint press conference with Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
"In my opinion, they (the Russians – ed.) could have also done this to prevent partners from transferring air defense systems to Ukraine before winter. By demonstrating that we can attack you, you need this too. It’s very much like Putin," he said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the war has now changed – and the main challenge is technological, which the aggressor is exploiting.
"The most frightening thing is that this attack is similar to Crimea. Psychologically, how is it different? Now it’s a technological war; you don’t need people in green uniforms just walking into your territory. Today, the war is different. Today, Russian-made drones played the same role on Polish territory," he said.
The President added that there is evidence that Russia’s launch of drones into Polish territory was deliberate, especially against the backdrop of joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises.
