The SSU dismantled a group that was embezzling aid intended for the AFU in the Dnipropetrovsk region

Under the cover of a charitable foundation, aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was being embezzled: in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Security Service of Ukraine neutralized a criminal group.

The scheme operated in the south and east of Ukraine. Six members of the criminal group, who misappropriated donations meant for the defence of our country, were simultaneously detained in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kamyanske.

The suspects, posing as volunteers, collected funds "for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," but only transferred 10% of the amount to the front. The scheme was organized in Dnipro by a recidivist who is under investigation. He involved nine accomplices in the operation, most of whom had no connection to the defence forces but dressed in military uniforms.

To collect donations, the suspects set up donation boxes in various cities. In just one documented episode, 556,000 UAH was embezzled.

The perpetrators face up to 7 years in prison with asset confiscation.
