EU Commissioner Kos urged Ukraine to develop a plan for national minorities

In Ukraine, it is necessary to develop an action plan for national minorities, stated EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

«We have completed the review of Ukraine’s legislation in the context of European integration. We plan to discuss this issue in more detail in Kyiv on October 1. Today, September 29, in Uzhhorod, I would like to discuss with representatives of the national communities of Zakarpattia. It is necessary to implement an appropriate action plan for national communities. Ukraine’s accession to the EU – this is the best opportunity to resolve the issues that concern national minorities», – noted the EU Commissioner.

As a reminder, the restriction of a significant portion of the rights of national minorities over the past eight years has been a key issue in the conflict between Ukraine and Hungary, due to which Budapest hinders Kyiv’s accession to the EU.
