Kyiv judge Serhiy Kovtun declared a large amount of real estate and a country estate
An unfinished farmstead near the capital, land plots in Kyiv and Prykarpattia regions, and an old loan with six zeros: Serhiy Kovtun’s declaration from the Kyiv Economic Court is full of signs of an "expensive" life that is incomparable to the judge’s official salary, the StopCor portal notes.
In the last reporting year, Kovtun’s official salary reached about UAH 1.5 million, while his wife earned almost twice as much. At the same time, the family owns a significant number of land plots and real estate in Kyiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions acquired before 2014. Among them is an allegedly unfinished country estate with outbuildings and a barbecue.
The judge’s declaration also includes a $2 million loan received by his wife in 2013 from Viktoriia Vaskivska, whose husband, Serhiy Vaskivskyi, was the head of the staff of Ukrtelecom’s supervisory board in the 2000s and took an active part in the privatisation of the state-owned company.
During a visit to the Kyiv Commercial Court, journalists tried to talk to Kovtun about these facts, but the judge was not forthcoming. He said that the funds for the construction of the family estate were declared and legal, that he knew nothing about Vaskivskyi and the Ukrtelecom case, and that the reporters should appeal the Mezhyhirya case. After that, he actually kicked the media out of his office under the pretext of an air raid alert.
