Former commander of OC "South" Kovalchuk received a new position
Major General Andriy Kovalchuk has been promoted to a new position. He became the head of the Odesa Military Academy.
The press service of the educational institution reported this on Friday, April 12. Previously, he served as commander of OC "South".
“The appointment of Major General Andriy Kovalchuk to the post of head of the Odesa Military Academy is not only an important event for the academy itself, but also for the entire country. His exceptional experience in military affairs, courage and devotion will bring a new level to the educational process and training of future officers,” – the message says.
The report notes that Kovalchuk not only defended Ukraine at the front, but also tested himself in difficult peacekeeping missions. The school expects that under his leadership the academy will become not only a place of learning, but also “a center for the development of military experience and culture.”
It should be noted that in his address published on the page of the operational command "South", Kovalchuk confirmed the information about his resignation from the post of commander of the OC and transition to the field of training military personnel.
He thanked the military personnel and residents of the southern regions of Ukraine for their cooperation during two and a half years of service.
“Together we liberated from the occupier part of the Odesa region - Zmiinyi Island - and the lion’s share of the territorial sea of Ukraine, the Mykolayiv region and the Kherson region on the right bank of the Dnipro. We carried out combat missions, repelling the daring enemy landing force, throwing back and sinking enemy ships, creating unprecedented historical facts of the newest era of our Armed Forces," Kovalchuk emphasized.
The military man added that he “remains in a single army family” and will continue to educate young officers.
“In educating young officers, I will introduce the same principles and requirements that I have always had and have for myself and those I lead: honor, decency, patriotism, responsibility, courage and prudence. From this grows a real commander, capable of being a model for imitation and educate your fighting team by example,” Kovalchuk summed up the message.
