Former SSU General Naumov found to have signs of illicit enrichment of UAH 33 million

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) has found signs of a corrupt criminal offence in excess of UAH 32.7 million in the lifestyle of Andriy Naumov, former head of the SSU’s Main Internal Security Department.

The basis for the monitoring was a letter from the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) regarding the possible illegal enrichment of an official.

Thus, in June 2022, at the Preshevo border checkpoint at the exit from the Republic of Serbia, property hidden from customs control was discovered in the BMW X6 xDrive40d he was driving, namely:

• funds in the amount of 592,990 euros (21,940,630 UAH);
• cash in the amount of 120,102 dollars. USA (4203570 UAH);
• 2 emeralds for 6,380 euros each (472,120 UAH).

The former intelligence officer explained that the property found in the car was the property of his loved ones, in particular, part of the money was loaned by his father from an acquaintance. However, NAPC found that the borrower did not have the financial ability to borrow such funds.

In addition, the official himself also did not have income from legal sources to purchase foreign currency and emeralds, which he tried to hide while crossing the state border of Serbia.

Also, the NAPC did not establish the legal sources of funds for the purchase of a BMW X6 xDrive40d, worth 116,022 euros (3,875,135 UAH) and a Toyota MC Land Cruiser 200 (2,234,700 UAH), registered to the common-law wife of a former SSU employee and her father.

Materials on the ex-head of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the SSU were sent to the Office of the Prosecutor General for inclusion in the materials of criminal proceedings, conducting a pre-trial investigation and bringing him to criminal responsibility.
