Denmark announced a new aid package for Ukraine
On Tuesday, May 7, Denmark announced a new aid package for Ukraine. The Danish government is allocating DKK 250 million (EUR 33.5 million) for the urgent basic needs of the most vulnerable people in Ukraine.
This was reported on the website of the Danish Foreign Ministry. Danish Minister for International Development Dan Jorgensen stressed that the humanitarian situation in Ukraine is extremely serious.
He said this new support package is designed to provide urgent humanitarian assistance and protection to the most vulnerable populations, which could save their lives.
“Millions of Ukrainians have been forced to flee their homes, thousands of homes have been destroyed, hospitals have been bombed, and basic necessities such as water, heating and electricity are scarce resources for many Ukrainians. In areas close to the front line, the situation has reached catastrophic levels “Women and children are particularly vulnerable. With this new support package, we aim to provide urgent humanitarian assistance and protection to the most vulnerable groups, which can save their lives,” he said.
The relief package reportedly contains basic aid in the form of food, medicine, water and shelter for Ukrainians in the worst-hit areas.
Particular attention is paid to protecting the most vulnerable segments of the population, including children who need a safe environment and support to continue learning even during times of war.
The support package also aims to prevent, mitigate and respond to risks faced by women and girls, including violence, and psychosocial support.
