Ukraine allowed to mobilize the first convicts into the National Guard
The first decisions on the mobilization of convicted citizens have begun to be made in Ukraine. The two men were allowed to sign a contract with the National Guard.
This is reported with reference to the Khmelnytskyi City District Court .
It is noted that yesterday the Khmelnytskyi City District Court began considering the first submissions of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine operating in the region on the parole of convicts from serving their sentences for military service and the establishment of administrative supervision over them.
On Tuesday, the court received two submissions; both convicts expressed a desire to perform military service under a contract.
Convicts were allowed to serve in the National Guard
The court explained that the volunteers were two young men, born in 2000 and 1981. Both were convicted of thefts in October and November 2022 and were sentenced to 4 years and 9 months and 5 years and 5 months in prison respectively.
The text of the resolutions also states that each of the men is fit for military service for health reasons, has passed professional and psychological selection, and has a sufficient level of physical fitness to perform the duties assigned to them.
The court granted these petitions and ordered the State Institution "Khmelnytskyi Pre-trial Detention Center" to immediately release the men on parole from serving their sentences to perform military service under a contract. Also, transfer men to units of the National Guard of Ukraine, delivering them to the Khmelnitsky United City Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support for concluding a contract and performing military service.
The court also decided to establish administrative supervision over the men, which will be carried out by the commanders of the military unit where they will serve under contract.
“Among the restrictions is a ban on being outside the location of the military unit and traveling on personal business without the permission of the commander,” the court explained.
Already today, the Khmelnytskyi City District Court will consider 50 submissions regarding the parole of convicts from serving their sentences for military service.
