The occupying forces wanted to seize the Pechenizhske Reservoir, cutting off Kharkiv residents’ access to drinking water and provoking a humanitarian catastrophe.

The goal of the Russians was to infiltrate in small groups in the north of the Kharkiv region, gain a foothold there until the main forces arrived, and create a number of bridgeheads in order to subsequently reach firing range of the regional center.

A serviceman, chairman of the Council of Reservists of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ivan Tymochko, spoke about this.

In the future, according to him, the Russian Armed Forces wanted to cover the city from the flanks, because the occupiers’ forces are not enough for frontal attacks.

The Russians also set out to take control of the Oskol reservoir with the expectation of capturing the Siverskyi Donets, which supplies water to the Kramatorsk-Slavyansk agglomeration, said Ivan Tymochko.

“And then try to advance to the Pechenezh reservoir in order to take control of water supplies to Kharkiv,” the serviceman added, suggesting that the Russians wanted to blow up the dam, creating an environmental disaster and sowing large-scale panic in Ukrainian society.
