In France, a Ukrainian was detained at a hotel with explosives: he could have been a Russian agent
A 26-year-old citizen of Ukraine and Russia, originally from Donbas, was detained the day before, June 4, in the municipality of Roissy-en-France in northern France on suspicion of “participation in a terrorist organization.”
This was reported by Le Journal du Dimanche and BFMTV , citing sources.
A Ukrainian man was allegedly arrested "quickly" after he accidentally detonated acetone peroxide - an explosive - while trying to create a homemade explosive device.
The man with burns was first taken to the hospital and later taken into custody. During a search, “materials intended for the manufacture of explosive devices” were found in his room at a hotel located near Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, writes BFMTV.
JDD also writes that law enforcement officers seized “money, several false passports and small arms,”
The case was transferred to the French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office and the Directorate General of Internal Security (intelligence service). According to JDD, one version is that the man could have worked for the Russian intelligence services.
The detained Ukrainian, according to BFMTV, is charged with “participation in a terrorist criminal organization for the purpose of preparing crimes against a person” and illegal possession of explosives for preparing a terrorist attack.
This is not the first time Russia has allegedly attempted to use its agents in France.
