From today, June 17, drivers transporting passengers in Poland using apps such as Uber or Bolt must have a valid driver’s license.

This was stated by Robert Opas, a representative of the Traffic Bureau of the Main Police Commandant’s Office, Polish Radio reports .

According to him, the change in rules is intended to improve safety and prevent drivers without a Polish driving license from making money by transporting people.

“Driving licenses issued in Poland are in our information databases. Therefore, the police can easily find out whether the driver has a license,” said the spokesman of the Polish department.

Managing Director of the Free Now service in Poland, Krzysztof Urban, assured that most foreigners do not have to take additional exams in Poland.

“The majority of taxi drivers working in Poland are people from three countries: Ukraine, Belarus and Georgia. These countries receive Polish driving licenses on the basis of their replacement after confirmation,” the top manager explained.

At the same time, he admitted that in order to apply for a Polish driving license one must spend more than 185 days in Poland. As a result, there may be fewer drivers available, which could lead to higher prices for customers.
